Mission Statement:

Horace Maynard Middle School’s mission is to encourage all students to achieve individual maximum performance in their educational undertakings in order to become productive and well-rounded citizens in society.

Horace Maynard Middle School Celebrates Government Day

         Horace Maynard Middle School held their annual Government Day on January 25th.  This was a very special day for our school. Mr. Anthony Malone opened the ceremony, and Mrs. Sharon McDonald introduced the speakers.
         Senator Mike Williams was the first speaker. He talked about making good decisions, the future, and that politics were an option. He stated, “Just because something bad happens, doesn’t mean it can’t be a positive.” Next, Mayor Larry Lay was introduced. The mayor reiterated the fact that even students can have a positive impact on our community. Mr. Lay swore in the History Club President, Logan Anderson, and Vice-President, Tucker Steiner.
        Senator Williams swore in the senators who are Chelsea Johnson,
Meagan Turner, Tiffany Smith, Alexis Fluty, Kylie Ruiz, Savannah Clabough, Codey Allen, Tyler Bailey, and Ashley Ailor. Representative William Baird swore in the representatives who are as follows: Brooke Taylor, Madison Snyder, Rachael Sams, Bryce Raley, Lea Muncey, Danielle Gilbert, Dylan Hayes, Kayli Atteo, Katie
Hibbert, and Taylor Chittum.

       Mr. Charles Thomas, Director of Union Co
unty Schools, addressed the importance of doing your best in school and always putting forth your best effort in whatever you do.
      Our final speaker, School Board Chair David Coppock, closed the ceremony with encouraging remarks about how change can have a positive effect on our schools.  Others in attendance included Jimmy Carter, Supervisor of Instruction for Middle School; Melissa Carter, HMMS Principal; Chris Robbins, Vice-Principal; and 8th grade t
eachers Ms. Sharon Collins and Mr. Anthony Malone, sponsors of the History Club.
